Residential addition and remodel Austin, Texas 900sf 2007
The clients at Kassarine Pass regularly entertained a number of guests and needed to enlarge their kitchen. The wooded backyard allowed for privacy and shade, so, the kitchen space could continue visually through a window wall and out onto the new deck. The existing exterior wall, sliding door and plumbing were removed and the space was extended 10’. Then the new projecting roof was notched to allow for an existing oak tree. The deck was also replaced and enlarged and the hot tub relocated.
The study was also extended and the existing kitchen cabinetry was refinished and re-used in the study.
The Client has a really cool collection of chrome retro toasters that inspired the reflective surfaces and firred-down ceiling above the new island / bar as well as the metallic finish on the new storefront window framing. This, more commercial, window system was integrated with traditional wood framing to provide the clients with an expansive area of glass to let in tons of light and a great view.
The raised ceiling over the rest of the kitchen allowed for tall upper cabinets and built -in open display shelving for a grand sense of space and extra storage.
