Restaurant remodel          Fort Worth, Texas         5000sf            2008

Campestre was an extensive remodel of a 25-year-old masonry building situated on the edge of a city park in the Historic Northside neighborhood of Fort Worth. The menu was based on the regional cuisines of Mexico. So the forms and experience of the space were also influenced by the culture of plazas, courtyards and stepped pyramids as well as the idea of bringing the exterior inside.  The structure was previously a restaurant, but needed to be brought up to 2008 building, energy, mechanical, and health codes. So the solid masonry and steel structure remains but the integrated systems are entirely modernized.

The main dining area has multiple seating experiences from public and festive to intimate and private.  While sitting at the new bar, clients can enjoy the Agave mural, live music from the stage across the way or the showcase grillroom. The built-in waiter and hostess stations help break up the space and allow for quick access to supplies.

The new lighting scheme replaced all of the existing fluorescent lights with adjustable recessed and point lights. The suspended ceiling was replaced and raised above the center of the dining space.  The mechanical system was also overhauled to accommodate a more efficient HVAC system as well as high-powered exhaust fans for the kitchen.

The kitchen itself was completely overhauled with new plumbing and electrical to support all the specialized equipment in a commercial kitchen. Outside, is a wrap-around patio with a lounge area and outdoor dining.  The oppressive existing awning was removed to lighten up the overall sense of the building and the roof profile was also changed by the addition of an inverted cornice.  The entryway was also redesigned - converting the old service entrance into the new main entrance due to its proximity to parking and to allow for a foyer.
